Bullfrog Spas: The Consumer Guide

Bullfrog Spas Understanding. JetPaks, the Collections, and Ownership

Thinking about a Bullfrog hot tub? Learn how JetPaks work, which Bullfrog series is right for you, and what to know about massage options, water care, energy efficiency, and ownership.

*Illustrative backyard setting. Actual Bullfrog models and features vary.

Most hot tub brands compete by adding more jets. Bullfrog took a different approach.

Instead of permanently building every massage pattern into the shell, Bullfrog developed its signature JetPak Therapy System, allowing owners of compatible models to customize their massage experience with removable JetPak inserts. At the same time, the design changes how water is delivered to many of the jets, reducing the amount of traditional plumbing behind the shell.

That combination has made Bullfrog one of the most recognizable names in the premium hot tub market.

But JetPaks aren’t the only thing that matters when choosing a hot tub. Comfort, seating design, water-care systems, operating costs, dealer support, and overall value are just as important. A feature that looks impressive in a showroom only matters if it improves your experience every time you soak.

In this guide, we’ll break down Bullfrog’s JetPak technology, compare the different collections, explain what ownership looks like, and help you decide whether a Bullfrog hot tub is the right fit for your home, budget, and lifestyle.

🌊 What Makes Bullfrog Spas Different?

💆 JetPaks: Choose Your Massage, Then Choose Your Seat

In a conventional hot tub, each seat has a particular arrangement of jets. If you prefer a different massage, you usually move to another seat.

Bullfrog gives you another option.

Each JetPak is a removable jetted backrest designed to provide a specific massage experience. Different designs target areas of your back, neck, or shoulders, with different massage patterns and intensities.

On compatible models, you can select your preferred JetPaks and move them between designated seating positions.

Here’s why that matters.

You might find a seat that’s just the right depth, with plenty of room for your legs and a comfortable backrest. But perhaps you prefer the massage offered in another seat. With compatible JetPaks, you have more flexibility to bring the massage you enjoy to the seat you prefer.

That’s the real benefit: more control over how the hot tub fits you.

During a wet test, try several massage styles. Don’t automatically choose the strongest one or the one with the most jets. Choose the ones you’d enjoy using regularly.

Also ask about compatibility before purchasing additional JetPaks, especially for an older hot tub. Don’t assume every generation fits every model.

🔧 Less Plumbing: The Other Half of the JetPak Story

JetPaks also change what happens behind the scenes.

A conventional hot tub routes water through tubing behind the shell to supply individual jets. Bullfrog incorporates much of that massage plumbing into the JetPaks themselves, reducing the network of hoses and connections needed around the hot tub.

Bullfrog identifies fewer hoses, fittings, and shell penetrations—and easier access to much of the JetPak plumbing—as advantages of this approach.

For a buyer, two points stand out:

  • A simpler plumbing arrangement: Fewer conventional plumbing connections are needed for the JetPak massage system.

  • More accessible massage components: Much of that plumbing is located on the removable JetPak instead of behind the shell.

This doesn’t make a Bullfrog leak-proof or eliminate future repairs. The hot tub still has pumps, a heater, seals, and other plumbing components. It does give you a meaningful construction difference to examine when comparing brands.

Ask your dealer to remove a JetPak and show you how it connects. Seeing it makes the design much easier to understand.

🛠️ Does Every Bullfrog Hot Tub Have JetPaks?

No—and that’s an important buying distinction.

A Series, M Series, STIL, and Swim Series include JetPak therapy. X Series and Calm use conventional jets. The reduced-plumbing explanation associated with JetPaks therefore shouldn’t be applied across the entire Bullfrog lineup.

If JetPaks are the reason you’re considering Bullfrog, start with a collection that includes them. If you’re more interested in the seating, construction, and overall package, a conventional-jet Bullfrog may still fit your needs.

🛠️ Understanding the Bullfrog Collections

Once you understand JetPaks and the plumbing design behind them, the lineup becomes easier to compare.

Start with one question: Do you want the ability to personalize your massage with JetPaks? Then compare the seating arrangements, convenience features, and price.

A Series — Personalized Massage With Plenty of Choice

A Series is a good starting point for shoppers interested in the Bullfrog approach. It combines JetPak therapy with a range of spa sizes and seating layouts, including lounge and open-seating configurations.

The collection also includes touchscreen controls and Simplicity filtration. Bullfrog currently lists Choice, Choice with Luxury Package, and Select configurations, with differences in finishes, lighting, controls, water features, and—in some models—the number of JetPaks.

Here’s where you’ll want to slow down when comparing prices. Two spas with the same basic model name may have different equipment packages.

Ask what the upgrade changes about your actual experience. An additional massage position might matter to your household. An upgraded cabinet finish might matter less—or it might be exactly what you want for your backyard.

Jetpak-Selection

M Series — Premium Design & Everyday Convenience

M Series combines JetPak personalization with premium finishes, distinctive seating arrangements, and additional convenience features.

Current models include the M6, M7, M8, and M9. Features include adjustable headrests, upgraded lighting, touchscreen controls, and auxiliary controls accessible from selected seats.

The question here is how much you value the complete experience.

Do you appreciate being able to adjust functions without moving across the spa? Does the seating arrangement give everyone a comfortable place? Do the finishes and lighting make it a space you’ll enjoy spending time in?

Those can all be worthwhile reasons to upgrade. Just make sure the layout fits you as well as the appearance does.

STIL — Contemporary Design With JetPak Therapy

STIL offers a more minimalist look, with clean lines and a contemporary design. It also includes JetPak therapy, bringing Bullfrog’s personalized massage approach into a different style of spa.

The collection includes the STIL5 and STIL7.

If you’re planning a modern patio or a carefully designed outdoor space, STIL may catch your attention. Give its seating the same careful evaluation you would any other hot tub.

A spa should look good in your backyard and feel comfortable when you’re sitting in it.

X Series — Conventional Jets With Bullfrog Construction

X Series uses conventional jets instead of removable JetPaks. It combines that approach with Bullfrog’s wood-free EnduraFrame construction and a variety of seating layouts.

Choice and Select trims offer different controls, lighting, and finish details. Flow diverters allow you to direct more massage pressure toward particular areas of the spa.

If you find a seating arrangement and massage you enjoy, you may not need the flexibility to move it around.

X Series is worth comparing if you like the Bullfrog package but don’t consider JetPaks a must-have.

Calm — Straightforward Soaking & Value

Calm is positioned as Bullfrog’s value-focused collection. It uses conventional jets and includes wood-free construction, insulation, headrests, lighting, and a water feature.

Bullfrog lists the Calm6, Calm7, and Calm7L, with Calm identified as a 2026 introduction. Confirm availability with your local dealer.

For a buyer who wants comfortable seating and everyday relaxation without moving into a more elaborate equipment package, this is another collection to consider.

Swim Series — Exercise, Recreation & Massage

Bullfrog’s Swim Series combines a larger area for activity with JetPak massage seating. It’s intended for buyers who want water exercise and recreation alongside the opportunity to sit back and relax.

If swimming is your main reason for buying, arrange a swim test. You’ll want to evaluate the current and usable exercise space as carefully as you would evaluate the seats in a hot tub.

Also have the dealer assess delivery access, site preparation, and service clearance before you commit.

💆 Choosing the Right Massage & Seating

JetPaks give you more flexibility, but the seat itself still matters.

A different massage module won’t change the depth of the seat, the space available for your legs, or how comfortably you fit in a lounge.

During a wet test, ask yourself:

  • Do the jets reach the areas I want massaged?

  • Can I sit naturally without sliding or bracing myself?

  • Is the massage comfortable at a setting I’d use regularly?

  • Do my feet have enough room when other people are seated?

  • Can I move between seats and enter or exit comfortably?

If more than one person will use the hot tub regularly, try it together. You may discover that each of you prefers a different seat depth or massage style.

Choose the seating arrangement that fits your household, then use the JetPak options to refine the experience.

Ask how many JetPaks come with your configuration and what additional compatible modules cost.

🧼 Water Care: What Will Ownership Look Like?

Bullfrog describes Simplicity Total Water Care around three jobs: filtration, sanitizing, and oxidation.

Filtration captures debris. Sanitizer controls microorganisms. Oxidation helps break down contaminants introduced during use.

Depending on the hot tub, available water-care options include FROG @ease, ozone, and Premium AOP by Clear Comfort. Ask which systems are included in your quote and which are upgrades.

FROG @ease for Bullfrog Spas

FROG @ease combines a mineral cartridge with SmartChlor to maintain a lower chlorine level than many conventional chlorine routines.

It can reduce frequent manual sanitizer dosing, but you’ll still need to test and balance the water, maintain the filters, and replace cartridges. Use the FROG @ease test strips specified for the system, because SmartChlor’s reserve can make ordinary total-chlorine readings misleading.

Have your dealer explain the startup process and demonstrate how to check and replace the cartridges.

Ozone & Premium AOP

Bullfrog lists Wellspring ozone, and Premium AOP by Clear Comfort among its oxidation options.

These systems support water care, but they don’t eliminate the need for an approved sanitizer routine and regular testing. Availability depends on the model and equipment package.

Before choosing an upgrade, ask:

“What does this system do automatically, what do I still need to do, and what supplies will I need to replace?”

A clear answer will help you decide whether the upgrade fits your expectations.

🏗️ Construction Beyond the JetPaks

Bullfrog’s EnduraFrame support structure uses molded ABS components in place of a traditional wood frame. That removes concerns about wood rot within the frame itself.

Construction should also be evaluated from a practical service standpoint.

Ask your dealer to show you the equipment area and explain how technicians access the pumps, heater, and other components. Make sure your planned installation leaves the required access available.

That beautiful deck or surrounding enclosure still needs to allow someone to work on the hot tub later.

⚡ Energy Efficiency & Operating Costs

Bullfrog’s JetPak design places the JetPaks and their water-distribution manifold within the main body of water. Bullfrog explains that this helps retain heat within the insulated water area.

The company combines that design with full-foam insulation and insulated covers as part of its efficiency approach. Your actual operating costs still depend on the model, electricity rates, weather, water temperature, and usage.

Here in the Northeast, insulation and cover quality deserve serious attention.

Ask for energy-use information for the specific model you’re considering. If someone quotes a monthly operating cost, ask what electricity rate and test conditions were used.

Also try the cover and lifter in person. You’ll handle that cover far more often than you’ll think about the specifications in the brochure.

🏆 Dealer Support, Warranty & Overall Value

The dealer is part of the purchase.

Before signing, find out who will deliver the hot tub, who will help with water-care questions, and who will perform service if something goes wrong.

Ask for the warranty that applies to the exact model and year you’re buying. Have the dealer explain the coverage, exclusions, and any service-call or travel charges that may apply.

Then request an itemized quote identifying:

  • The model, trim, and included JetPaks

  • Water-care equipment and other upgrades

  • Cover, cover lifter, and steps

  • Delivery and placement

  • Startup supplies and orientation

  • Site preparation and electrical work included or excluded

Compare the complete purchase, not just the advertised hot tub price.

An upgrade doesn’t need to be essential to be worthwhile. You should understand what it adds and whether you’ll appreciate it often enough to justify the cost.

🧠 Final Thoughts

Bullfrog’s JetPak system gives you an option worth exploring: choosing the massage you enjoy and pairing it with a seat that fits you comfortably. That flexibility is the main reason I’d put a JetPak-equipped Bullfrog on your shopping list.

You may also find that an X Series or Calm model gives you everything you want without interchangeable massage options. It comes down to what feels good to you and which features you’ll use.

Choose a model that fits your household, understand what’s included in the price, and make sure you’re comfortable with the dealer supporting it. The goal is a hot tub you’ll look forward to using long after the excitement of delivery day.
